About us

**About COSRX**

COSRX is a formula.

Cosmetic + Rx = COSRX.

Cosmetic is skincare. Rx is prescription. Put them together and you have a quiet statement of intent: that what you put on your skin should behave less like pretty packaging and more like a remedy—specific, purposeful, and answerable to something real.

That formula was not invented in a marketing meeting. It came from a problem.

---

**It started with skin that could not find its match**

The founder, Jun Sang-hun, had sensitive skin. He could not find products that worked for him—things were either too harsh, too vague, or both.

He was not alone in that. The team behind COSRX has said, plainly, that they themselves had sensitive skin, and that at the time, there was almost nothing on the shelf they could use.

So they decided to make it themselves.

But COSRX did not rush a product to market. The brand spent years—starting in 2002—collecting real data and real concerns from real customers about what their skin was actually asking for. Listen first. Formulate later. That order became the brand’s permanent habit: the answer is not in a laboratory flash of inspiration. The answer is in the person.

COSRX was officially founded in 2013.

**The cult product that was never designed to be a cult product**

What made the world pay attention was a serum with a strange texture.

In 2014, COSRX launched the Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence: a viscous, slightly unfamiliar formula built on filtered snail secretion, with no glossy hero packaging and no advertising campaign behind it. It spread the old way—one honest recommendation at a time, through online skincare communities.

It became one of the gateway products of K-beauty in the West—the first Korean serum for a generation of people who had never used one before.

Its position has held. On Amazon, the essence has accumulated more than 100,000 reviews and is still ordered in the tens of thousands of bottles per month. During Amazon Prime Day 2026, it ranked No. 2 in Facial Serums and No. 25 across all of Beauty & Personal Care in the U.S.. It has sat at or near the top of Amazon’s facial serum rankings year after year.

A product grown by word of mouth outlives a product pushed by budget. That is not a slogan. It is what the numbers show.

**Less, but nothing important left out**

COSRX’s formulation logic fits in one sentence: use the fewest ingredients to do the most specific job.

The brand breaks that into two principles. **Simplicity**: keep only the key ingredients, and remove everything redundant. Redundancy is not just waste; it is extra surface area for irritation. **High performance**: active ingredients at meaningful concentrations, so the formula itself is the argument.

This is not a “more ingredients means more impressive” philosophy. It is the opposite. COSRX tends to put one or two hero ingredients at the front and let them speak clearly, rather than hiding behind a long list of buzzwords.

No synthetic fragrance. No drying alcohol. No parabens, artificial colorants, mineral oil, or essential oils. Those exclusions are not a clean-label checklist. For a brand that began with sensitive skin, they are the floor, not the ceiling.

**Independent first. Then backed, not absorbed.**

COSRX was one of the first generation of independent K-beauty brands, and it had an unusual trajectory: it was recognized overseas before it was fully recognized at home.

In 2021, Amorepacific took an initial 38.4% stake. In 2023, it exercised its option, acquiring additional shares for roughly $559.7 million and raising its controlling stake to 93.2%, making COSRX a subsidiary.

But being acquired did not mean being flattened into a featureless product line. The brand has kept a stubborn sort of character. COSRX Chief Strategy Officer Samuel Seo has described that character in one phrase: **“Persist until it works.”**

Do not chase every trend. Do not change a formula because a concept is suddenly popular. Go back to efficacy, and then go back again.

---

**Tomorrow, still the same formula**

COSRX’s slogan is **EXPECTING TOMORROW**.

It does not promise overnight transformation. It promises that if you meet your skin honestly, simply, and with patience—addressing what it actually needs—tomorrow can be a little better than today.

That promise has not changed. From 2002, when the brand started listening to the first customer’s problem; to 2013, when “Cosmetic + Rx” became a name; to a snail essence with over a hundred thousand Amazon reviews; to shelves in more than 146 countries and 119 global beauty awards between 2014 and 2021—COSRX has been doing the same thing.

Listen to what the skin is saying. Then answer it with as few, and as honest, ingredients as possible.

The answer is not somewhere else. The answer is in each specific person.
